Obituary

Jakob Berndt 40, born February 5, 1884, died on 6 July 1923 following an accident.

On 26 June 1923 he was repairing an automobile in the repair shop in Herreid, South Dakota and he moved the jack in the lift but he was under it. The chain detached and the auto with the whole weight dumped off the work station and crushed him.

Someone brought him to the hospital at Mobridge, where he received good care, but then his earthy body gave out.

The funeral was held on Sunday, 8 July 1923 Herreid, South Dakota the body was in Wodmen Hall, where he was buried in the town cemetery (Fairview Cemetery). Pastor H.G. Bens gave the funeral sermon, a woman's quartet sang comforting songs, and Miss S. Clara Bens played two impressive funeral marches.

The deceased leaves behind his mourning widow Anna Barbara Hammerschmidt-Berndt and 4 children, Ruth, Elmer, "Lovie" (Alice) and Helen besides 2 children from his first marriage Hilda and Violet, and his Mother Mrs. Anna Maria Pudwill-Berndt-Green. May God comfort all and shower them with his grace!
