George Green dies at 90

George E Green, 90, of Fort Morgan died Monday at the Colorado Plains Medical Center in Fort Morgan.

Green was born Aug 28, 1911, to John R and Alice Lenhart Green on a farm near Fleming. In 1919 the family bought a farm southwest of Brush to be near his maternal grandparents. He attended a nearby rural school and then Knearl School in Brush and graduated from Brush High School in 1930. His art teacher offered to pay his way into art school because of his artistic abilities, but he was needed to help with the family farm so he stayed in Brush.

His father was the head carpenter in the construction of the Carroll Hotel in Brush, and he laid most of the floors for that project. During World War II three of his brothers joined the service so George stayed and took care of the farm. During this time he also worked at the Denver Postal Center.

He married Elizabeth Ramsey, a Fort Morgan teacher, in November of 1952. He was a member of the United Methodist Church and AARP. He enjoyed going to Meet and Eat at the Senior Center.

Green is survived by his son, John E Green of Fort Morgan; two brothers, Raymond of Santa Rosa, Calif., and Harvey of Brush, and a sister, Ethel Cox of Brush. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Elizabeth in 1987 and brothers Myron and Joseph.

Funeral services will be Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at the Fort Morgan United Methodist Church. Interment will follow in Memory Gardens.

The Heer & Jolliffe Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
