Hazle Adele Pearson, daughter of Charlie and Alice (Rydell) Pearson was born on July 4, 1917, in White Rock Township, Roberts County, SD. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Joseph Lutheran Church, rural Rosholt. She attended the White Rock School District 6 West and graduated from Rosholt High School in 1934. Following graduation, she worked in Minneapolis and Hammond, IN.
On June 5, 1940, Hazle married Robert Akerson. They shared 54 years of marriage. Their three children are Arabelle, Adrienne, and Daniel. Robert passed away on October 21, 1994. Hazle continued living on the same farm with her son Dan and his wife Sandra until she moved to the Rosholt Care Center in 2007. She enjoyed the laughs and love given by the caregivers.
Hazle was an active member of St. Joseph leading Vacation Bible School, Bible studies, and organizing groups in the kitchen. She loved the church and she loved her Lord!
Hazle was a member of the Helping Hands Homemakers Club and the Sr. Citizens group. She enjoyed singing, playing the organ, putting puzzles together, cooking, gardening, sewing, rug weaving, and traveling but most of all working beside her husband and kids. She loved to entertain – many reunions were held at their farm and the coffee pot was always on!
Hazle is survived by two daughters, Arabelle Cawelti of Underwood, MN, and Adrienne (Ted) Horning of Chokio, MN; one son, Daniel (Sandra) Akerson of Rosholt; 12 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren; 7 great-great grandchildren; and two sisters-in-law, Betty Pearson and Ada Pearson.
Hazle was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; her parents; Robert's parents, Oke and Lucretia Akerson; a sister Violet (Ray) Tessmer; three brothers, Ernest Pearson, Gordon (Elaine) Pearson, and Lloyd Pearson; and a son-in-law, Leon Cawelti.
