William E. Atwell Jr., age 91, a longtime Stevens Point attorney, passed away on Nov. 12, 2002, at the River Pines Center in Whiting.
Memorial services were held at the Episcopal Church of the Intercession. Burial of his ashes at Forest Cemetery. Boston Funeral Home.
Born Dec. 22, 1910, in Stevens Point, son of the late William E. and Ida (Wells) Atwell. Grew up in Stevens Point and graduated from Emerson High School in 1929. Attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Graduated from Law School in 1935.
He married Helen "Beth" Owens on Oct. 12, 1935. She passed Sept. 5, 1978. He married Camille Oak on April 25, 1982.
He joined his father in law practice in 1935, retiring in 1980. A 65-year member of the Portage County and State Bar Association, and a past president of the Portage County Bar. A lifetime member of the Church of the Intercession. Served on a committee with the Diocese of Fond du Lac for a number of years. Member of the Stevens Point Country Club for more than 40 years.
Survivors include his wife, Camille; two daughters, Charlotte (James) Erickson, Balsam Lake, and Elizabeth La Rocque, San Diego, CA; one step-son, Glenn (Jean) Oak, Lakeland, FL; one sister, Charlotte Chaney, Kansas City, MO; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
