Berta Baker Albrecht, 91, of Pocatello, passed away on Tuesday, May 3, 2011, at a local care center.

Berta was born November 21, 1919 in Oxford, Idaho to John William Baker and Kate Emily Robinson. She graduated from Downey High School in 1937 and received her registered nurse certificate from Pocatello General Hospital in 1941.

Berta married Warren W. Venemon in 1942 in Sun Valley, Idaho. From this marriage, they had a son, Robert W. Venemon. Warren passed away in 1949. She later married Gordon Albrecht and they lived in Pocatello, where they owned and managed an apartment complex.

Berta first worked as a staff nurse at a Pocatello hospital, then did private nursing before entering the public health field. She joined the Bingham County Health Dept. as a graduate nurse. In 1952 she was employed with the Bannock County Health Dept. In 1956 she was promoted to Junior Public Health Nurse. She worked there for many years making visits to schools and private homes. She touched many lives as a public health nurse for the Southeastern District Health Dept. Berta was honored in 1963 by the Governor of Idaho as an Outstanding State Employee.

Berta was a member of the L.D.S. Church.

Berta was devoted to her family and her poodle, Peaches. In her younger years she loved fly fishing and hunting. She was fond of gardening and enjoyed cooking for her family. She and Gordon took many trips to Hawaii, Alaska and the Caribbean. On one memorable trip to Alaska she reeled in a halibut of over 150 lbs.!

Her family would like to extend their gratitude to the Quail Ridge staff and to the Creekside Hospice staff for their care of Berta.

Berta is survived by her son, Robert (Katherine) Venemon, grandchildren, Corrine (David) Frost, Camille Venemon, Justin Venemon, great-grandchildren, Korbi Hyde and Kristine Hyde, all of Pocatello. She was preceded in death by her parents, all of her siblings, Jay Baker, Marion Baker, Wayne Baker, Iva Kay Schloskey, Alice Trahant and Maxine Choules. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, May 10, 2011, at Colonial Funeral Home, 2005 S. 4th Ave, with a visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow the funeral service at Mountain View Cemetery.
