The disappearance January 8 of C. R. Von Gunden, 56, veteran Clearfield railroader, continues to remain a mystery.

Officials of the New York Central Railroad and members of his family said today that they had heard of no new developments in the case.

Mr. Von Gunden, a brakeman was last seen on Fourth Street, Williamsport, Friday night Jan. 8. There has been no trace of him since. A number of clues have been checked out by police but no trace of the man has yet been found.

Feb. 5, 1954 Body of Missing Clearfield Man Is Located

...was found by four boys in a clump of underbrush...the railroad official said the area is located at the west end of the city. A section of about 600 feet of wasteland separated the bunk houses of the New York Central and Reading railroads and it was in this area, some distance from a path, that he was located.

The speculation has always been that he left the bunkhouse to get dinner and that on his return trip to the bunkhouse he became disoriented. It was ruled that his death was a result of natural causes. Sadly, his body had lain covered in snow for nearly four weeks.
