Col. William Rose fought in the Patriot Army of the American Revolution. He enlisted in Connecticut, and served as a Private. After his term of service was up, he re-enlisted and worked his way up to the rank of Colonel (Col.).

The above information was summarized from a Sons of the American Revolution (SAR) application submitted by Frederick E. Page, a lawyer and genealogist, of Bingamtonton, NY, in March 1953, and approved by the SAR.

Around, or shortly after 1787, Col. William Rose and wife Sussanah arrived in the Town of Chenango, Broome County, NY, in the area now known as Nimmonsburg.

They had the following children:
1) Phebe
2) Thayer,
3) Horace Boardman,
4) William Jr.,
5) Elanson (MD) *
6) Martha (Rose) Nimmons **, and
7) Hiram

* my 4th great-grandfather

William, along with John NIMMONS, could be considered to be a Co-Founder of the unincorporated hamlet of NIMMONSburg, NY. Nimmonsburg was actually Named after John Nimmon's son Burwell.
** Burwell Nimmons married William & Susanna Rose's daughter Martha.

William died in 1846, and is buried in the Nimmonsburg Cemetery, Nimmonsburg, Town of Chenango. The cemetery is located On US Rt. 11 North, just south of the I81 Overpass.
