Sue Kimmel Yater, 86, of Madison, died Thursday, March 12, 2009, at her residence.

She was born Aug. 17, 1922, in Eldorado, Ark., the daughter of George and Maggie Beardon. She worked as an administrative officer in civil service at the former Jefferson Proving Ground for 33 years. She was a member of the B.P.O.E. Elks Lodge 524 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1969. She enjoyed playing cards, especially bridge and euchre, and growing flowers.

She is survived by four sons, George Kimmel of Georgetown, Texas, Joe Kimmel of Hanover, and Keith Kimmel and Jeptha Kimmel, both of Madison; one sister, Margaret Ann LeCuyer of Dallas, Texas; eight grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Jeptha J. Kimmel; her second husband, Herman Yater; and her parents.
