Son of J. V. and Sarah Cole, was born in Milton, Mahoning county, Ohio, April 10, 1845, and died at his home in Scott township, Steuben county, Indiana, July 22, 1914, aged 69 years, 3 months and 12 days.

The deceased moved to Indiana in 1856. In 1863 he enlisted in Co. A, 129th Ind. Regiment, serving for one year and eight months until the close of the war, being commissioned as a lieutenant at the time of his discharge.

In October 1870, he was married to Augusta Sisson, who died the following year. He was again married in 1872 to Miss Patience Elliott, and to them were born six children, Clementia J. Bachman, who died March 19, 1910; Samuel S.; Mrs. Blanche Harbaugh, of Ray; John Jr., who died March 22, 1892; Leslie E. and Rho E. The wife, three children and six grandchildren survive him. He was an industrious and upright citizen, served his country faithfully in time of need, and will be missed by a large circle of friends.

Funeral services were held at the late home on Friday, July 24, by Elder John R. Golden, with burial in Circle Hill. The B. J. Crosswaite G. A. R. Post assisted in the services, and Miss Mildred Bailey, daughter of the Post, sang.
