Dr. D. W. C. Laverty, 62, of North Union street (near Emaus), died in Harrisburg Hospital November 14, 1918; there he underwent an operation for appendicitis, was doing quite well until he suffered a relapse.

Dr. Laverty was a native and a practicing physician of Middletown, a prominent resident of lower end borough. He was the father of Dr. Lauman Laverty, who formerly was a resident physician at the Harrisburg Hospital and practiced medicine here several years before he was commissioned in the Army and sent to France.

Dr. De Witt Clinton Laverty came from one of Middletown's oldest families. He was born there on May 1, 1856, the son of Dr. Theodore and Lydia (Lauman) Laverty. There he received his primary education in the public school system; later studied medicine under his father and afterward attended Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia from which he was graduated in 1877.

He married Bertha Frey, daughter of George S. and Annie (Smith) Frey, of York, in 1881. He was an active member of the St. Peter's Lutheran Church and for a long time was a trustee and the church treasurer.

Surviving are two daughters, the Misses Theo. Laverty and Lydia Laverty at home, one son, Dr. Lauman Laverty, who is in the medical service overseas; two brothers and two sisters: Eugene Laverty, Theodore Laverty, Miss Jennie Laverty and Mrs. J. F. Raymond, all of town.

Rev. Fuller Bergstresser, pastor of St. Peter's Lutheran Church officiated the service. Burial was made in Middletown Cemetery.
