The Tattnall County native was a 1933 graduate of Glennville High School and attended Gordon Military College. He was a member of Glennville Freewill Baptist Church and was formerly a self-employed contractor with Seaboard Coast Line Railroad. He was also employed by civil service at Fort Stewart and was a former Long County deputy.
SURVIVORS: his wife of 62 years, Cequal Baxter of Glennville; a daughter, Cheryle Kimball of Savannah; a son and daughter-in-law, Dennis Gary and Linda Baxter of Bloomingdale; three sisters, Elba Hartwell of Huntsville, Ala., Beulah Winge of Glennville and Myrl Brown of Homerville; a brother, Barney Baxter of Glennville; and four grandchildren.
VISITATION: 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Cobb Funeral Home, Glennville Chapel.
FUNERAL: 3 p.m. Wednesday at Ebenezer Freewill Baptist Church, burial in the church cemetery.
