JEREMIAH PENROD CALLED BY DEATH

Aged South Side Resident Expired Last Night at his Home on Sherman Street

CIVIL WAR VETERAN

Jeremiah Penrod, one of Johnstown's oldest residents, died at the Penrod home, No. 829 Sherman street, Sixth Ward, between 9 and 10 o'clock last night, aged 82 years and three months. Mr. Penrod had been sick a long time with general debility which caused his death. The deceased was a son of John and Sarah Penrod and was born in Stoystown on February 25, 1826. He was a brother of John J. Penrod, Mrs. Mary Wingard of the Fifth Ward, and Mrs. Sarah Butler of the Sixth Ward, Mrs. Rosanna Laird of the First Ward. Jeremiah Penrod and Miss Mary Ann Barkley were married a long time ago at Stanton Mills, Somerset Co., coming to Johnstown in 1873. Mrs. Penrod died here in 1884. Beside his brother and sisters Mr. Penrod is survived by five daughters - Mrs. Sarah Luther, of the Eighth Ward, Mrs. Margaret Repp and Mrs. John E. Shaffer of Allentown, and Misses Clara and Elsie Penrod at home. He is also survived by twelve grandchildren and thirteen greatgrandchildren. The funeral will take place at 2 o'clock tomorrow afternoon when services will be held at the Penrod home on Sherman street. Private interment will be made at a late hour in Grandview Cemetery, where the services will be in charge of the officers of Emory Fisher Post 30 G.A.R. of which Mr. Penrod was a member.
