Colonel (Ret) David Moore Anderson III, 66, passed away in Arlington, Virginia on Sunday, April 17, 2011.

David was born in Jackson, Mississippi, on September 30, 1944. He spent most of his childhood in Newton, Mississippi, and attended Newton High School, graduating in 1962. He was appointed to the United States Military Academy at West Point, New York, and graduated in 1966 as a Field Artillery Officer. Colonel Anderson served two combat tours in Vietnam and was awarded the Bronze Star Medal (1OLC). Colonel Anderson attended the Command and General Staff College, the Armed Forces Staff College, and the Army War College and earned a Masters Degree from the University of Iowa. He was also a Battalion Commander at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. Colonel Anderson spent one year as a Foreign Area Officer in Colombia, South America and three years as the Army Attaché in Caracas, Venezuela. His final assignment was US Defense Attaché to Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, marking the end of a 27 year career.

David retired from the Army in 1993 and worked for a defense consulting company in Burke, Virginia, before joining the Federal Bureau of Investigation in 2004 as an Intelligence Analyst. David retired from the FBI in December 2010.

David is survived by his wife Victoria, and their twin sons, Simon and Oliver aged 10. He is also survived by his sister, Tamora Anderson Baily of Springfield, Virginia. David was predeceased by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. David M Anderson Jr.

No calling hours are scheduled, but funeral services for Colonel David M Anderson III will be conducted at 1pm on Monday, August 22, 2011, at the Post Chapel, Fort Myer, Arlington, Virginia, followed by interment with full military honors at Arlington National Cemetery.
