MONROE EVENING NEWS Mrs. Elizabeth Hoffman, 87, died at 4:15 p.m. Saturday in the home of her daughter, Mrs. Arthur Thoma of 7596 S. Stoney Creek Rd., with whom she was living. Services will be at 8:45 a.m. Tuesday in the Liedel Funeral Home at Maybee and 9:30 a.m. in St. Patrick's Catholic Church at Carleton, with the Rev. Howard Hungerford officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery at Maybee. Rosary will be reciated at 8:15 tonight in the funeral home.
Born, Aug.2, 1871, in Exeter Township, she was the daughter of Joseph and Louise Eby. She married Joseph Hoffman Sept. 11, 1893 in St.Patrick's Church and they moved to their farm home on Feder Rd. He died Aug. 22, 1939. She attended St. Patrick's School and was a life-long resident of Exeter Township until 10 years ago when she moved to the home of her daughter because of illness. Mrs. Hoffman was a member of the Christian Mothers Sodality of St. Joseph's Catholic Church of Maybee.
Survivors include 5 sons, Otto, Emil, and Louis, Exeter Township supervisor , all of Maybee, and Henry and Carl of Monroe; 3 daughters, Mrs. Thoma, Mrs. George Kaumeyer and Mrs. Norman Burkey, all of Monroe; a brother Joseph Eby of Carleton; 2 sisters, Mrs. Seraphine Thoma of Maybee and Mrs. Lawrence Schmitt of Detroit; 21 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. Preceding her in death were her husband; three sons, Philip in infancy, Joseph in 1941 and Vincent, former supervisor of Exeter Township in 1956; three sisters , and two brothers.
