Obituary:
Funeral services for James Monroe Greene, Sr., 89, of Elko, SC will be held three p.m., Saturday, December 11, 2010 at the Elko Baptist Church with the Rev. Tom Baker officiating. Burial with military rites will be in the Williston Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church social hall on Saturday. American Legion Post #75 will serve as Honorary Pallbearers. Memorials may be made to Elko Baptist Church, P.O. Box 277, Elko, SC 29826. Folk Funeral Home, Williston, SC is assisting the family. Mr. Greene passed away Thursday, December 9, 2010.

Born in Dunbarton, SC, he was a son of the late Henry Dayton and Sarah Emma Burckhalter Greene. He was a retired cabinet maker having worked for Schumpert Lumber Company for many years. He was a WWII US Army Veteran having served with the 12th Army division with the 43rd battalion. He received the American Theater ribbon, the Eamet service medal, WWII Victory medal and three (Europe) battle stars. He was a member of Elko Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, men's Sunday School teacher and Sunday School superintendent. He was a member of the American Legion Post # 75 and was former mayor of Elko, SC.

Survivors include his wife of the home, Rosalee Hamer Greene, sons, James Monroe "Jimmy" (Carolyn) Greene of Greer, SC, Jerry Hamer (Karen) Greene of Elko; grandchildren, Ashley (John) Legg, Brannon, Courtney, Autumn, Savannah and Austin Greene; great granddaughter, Emma Rose Legg and a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by sisters, Sadie Sweat, Louise Rountree, Nell Gunter, Elma Arban; brothers, Otis J. Greene, Henry E. Greene, Marion H. Greene and Vernon Greene.
