He grew up in Biggers and later moved to Abingdon where he worked as a caster at Briggs Manufacturing for 43 years, retiring on May 1, 1993. He had also owned and operated Dewey's Gulf Service Station in Abingdon for two years.
Dewey was active in the Abingdon community. He served as a volunteer fireman for the Abingdon Fire Protection District for 26 years. He also volunteered as a little league baseball coach along with Jack Wherley, and they coached the Pirates team for several years as their boys were growing up. He also enjoyed camping and taking trips in their motor home. He loved his sons and daughters-in-law, and his family was his pride and joy. He loved his grandchildren and enjoyed sharing in the many events they participated in. He liked to be around people and share in laughter and good times. His saying of "Hey Boy" will be missed. One of Dewey's goals in life was to make a new friend every day.
