DEATH OF WM. P. HOSKINSON, ESQ.

President of Citizens Bank of
Waynesburg - A Prominent and Upright
Man.

William P. Hoskinson, Esq., President of the Citizens National bank, of Waynesburg, and a prominent resident of this county, died at his home in Springhill township, Friday afternoon, January 17, about four o'clock. For about two years he had been in feeble health by reason of paralysis, and a recurrence of an attack of this disease caused his death.

He was born December 28, 1838, being a son of Judge George Hoskinson and Sophia Adams Hoskinson, deceased, of Waynesburg. His great-grandfather Adams was killed by the Indians and his grandfather, Robert Adams, erected one of the first brick houses in Waynesburg. W. P. Hoskinson was reared and educated here and when he grew to young manhood was engaged in his father's store. Later he became manager of a store for his father at New Freeport, and in 1860 purchased a half interest in the store, but a year later became owner of the entire business, which he conducted successfully for over twenty years. In 1882 he retired from the mercantile business and devoted his attention to farming and stock-raising, becoming the owner of a large amount of land in Springhill township.

He was a man of upright character, strong personality and wide influence, his counsel being much sought by friends and acquaintances in important busines transactions. He served as Justice of the Peace for fifteen or twenty years, discharging the duties of that office with fidelity and fairness. With the organization of the Citizens National bank, of Waynesburg, in 1890, he was chosen Vice President and upon the death of the bank's first President, the late George Wisecarver, Mr. Hoskinson succeeded to that position, and had been re-elected for the past fourteen years. As a bank official his good judgement and conservatism, coupled with sound businss principles, were always commended and appreciated by his fellow-members of the board of Directors.

He had for years (clipping section omitted)...also three half-sisters, Mrs. George E. Hoge, Mrs. W. A. Dinsmore, Mrs. C. E. Dittman, and one half-brother, J. B. Hoskinson, of Waynesburg. Mrs. Sarah Hoskinson, of East High Street, was the step-mother of deceased.
