James Hugh Brennan, Jr., a resident of Dothan, passed away Friday, April 29, 2011, at Southeast Alabama Medical Center. He was 84. Funeral services will be held 3:00 p.m. Sunday, May 1, 2011 at First United Methodist Church with Dr. James Sanders officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Hill Cemetery with Byrd Funeral Home on West Main Street directing. The family will receive friends in the church parlor Sunday from 2:00 p.m. until service time. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the "In Christ's Name Fund" of the First United Methodist Church, 1380 West Main Street, Dothan, AL 36303. Mr. Brennan was born August 1, 1926, the son of the late James Hugh Brennan, Sr. and Marie Spann Brennan. He lived in Dothan his entire life. He attended Dothan High School, Sullivan's Preparatory School in Washington, DC, the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD and Tulane University in New Orleans, LA. After returning to Dothan, Mr. Brennan and his father formed the Southeastern Oil Company. Mr. Brennan was an avid golfer who played in numerous tournaments including the British Amateur twice. He was also very active in the Dothan Rotary Club and was honored as a Paul Harris Fellow. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Dothan. Mr. Brennan leaves behind his beloved wife of 63 years, Martha Ellis Miles Brennan; one sister, Mickey New; two sons, James Hugh Brennan III (Carol) and Lee Miles Brennan; one daughter, Patricia Brennan; grandchildren, Kelly Voyles Kardian (Andrew), James Hugh Brennan IV, Courtney Clayton Brennan, Brennan Miles Voyles, Kathleen Owens Brennan, Chloe' Brennan Powell (Phillip); great grandchildren, Benjamin Landon Kardian, Miles Andrew Kardian, Jameson Layne Kardian, Alice James Powell. He also leaves behind numerous extended family and friends. Serving as pallbearers will be Sam Vann, Bill Blount III, Marbury Spann, Eddie Andrews, Press Thornton III and Randy Church.
