Alford "Elmer" McCallister, 78, of Meggett, husband of Dorothy A. McCallister, died Sunday, May 1, 2011 at Patriots Harbor Community.

A gathering of family and friends will be held this evening from 6 to 8 o'clock at James A. Dyal Funeral Home, 303 S. Main Street, Summerville. A Graveside service will be held at a later date at Robbins Cemetery, Hwy. 87 S, Winnabow, NC.

Mr. McCallister was born February 16, 1933 in St. Albay, WV, son of the late Alfred McCallister and Sinna McCallister. Mr. McCallister served in the United States Merchant Marines and retired from Military Ocean Terminal, Sunny Point, as a Security Guard.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Charleston, 3870 Leeds Ave., Ste. 101, North Charleston, SC 29405.

Survivors, including his wife Dorothy, are two step daughters; Mary Hickman (Bill) of Winnabow, NC and Linda McCarson of Charleston, SC, three stepsons; Charles Pinckney (Camilla) of Wilmington, NC, Joseph Barnes (Cheryl) of Meggett, and Norris Barnes (Virginia) of Charleston, four grandchildren; Christopher Simmons, Kimberly Pinckney, Michele Billings (Chris) and Nicole McCarson and four great grandchildren; Bridgett Simmons, Christopher Simmons, Jr., Thomas Billings and Hunter Billings and many loving nieces and nephews and six brothers and one sister; Lewis McCallister, Clarence McCallister, Dave McCallister, Delbert McCallister, Basil McCallister, Robert McCallister and Darlene Ellis.
