His name is spelled Ayres and Ayers in various records. He may have been born in 1871 instead of 1870 since another child may have been born in July 1870.

Joseph died at Albion in 1939 at the age of 68 years 7 months 2 days.

In 1900 Joseph L. Ayers lived in Boone County, Nebraska; 1910 Joseph L. Ayers in Kiowa Couonty, Oklahoma; 1920 Lake Ayers lived in Fremont County, Iowa, and 1925 the Stte census shows Lake J. Ayers lived in Fremont county, Iowa.

Lake Ayres passed away Friday afternoon, March 10, 1939, at the home of his sister, Mrs. Maggie Clipston, where he had been cared for during his long illness. Joseph Lake Ayres was born near Shenandoah, Iowa, on August 8, 1870. He lived there with his parents on a farm until a young man, then came to Nebraska and farmed near Albion. He was united in marriage to Lillian Mae Gillett at Albion on February 8, 1899, and to this union three daughters were born. They lived on a farm near Albion except six years which he spent on a farm near Roosevelt, Oklahoma, until March 1919, at which time they moved to Shenandoah, Iowa. He united with M. E. church when a young man and was a member of the M. E. church of Shenandoah, Iowa, at the time of his death. He departed this life at Albion on March 10, 1939, at the age of 68 years, 7 months, and 2 days. He wife preceded him in death on December 3, 1928. He is survived by the three daughters, Mrs. Lulu Buchanan of Albion; Mrs. Dorothy Bacon of Phoenix, Arizona; and Mrs. Lois Melton of Allegan, Michigan; four grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Maggie Clipston of Albion; one brother, Cloy MJ. Of Shenandoah, Iowa, and a host of other relatives and friends.
