He was born on Nov. 10, 1936, in Wynne, Ark., to the late Joseph Frank and Mary (Neal) Barnett. He married Orla Jean Clyde on Oct. 22, 1954, in Sparland; she preceded him in death on June 7, 2010.
He is survived by two sons, Michael (Lynn) Barnett of Forrest, Ill., and Greg Barnett of Granville, Ill.; two daughters, Debbie Wilkinson of Lacon and Jan Miller of Chillicothe; 13 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Lori Phelps; one brother, Thomas Barnett; and one sister, Betty Jean Carr.
Bill retired as foreman at the Caterpillar proving grounds. He was employed by Caterpillar Inc. for 37 years. After retirement he worked part-time for 20 years at Variety Amusement in Lacon.
Bill loved spending time with all of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He enjoyed his visits with his dear friend, Dale Liable, and spending time with his horses.
He was also the president of the 15 Club in Lacon.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 4, 2011, at Lenz Memorial Home in Lacon, with the Rev. Casey Taylor officiating. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 3, 2011, also at Lenz Memorial Home. Interment will be in the Lacon Cemetery.
