The Hamilton RecordFebruary 10, 1916
Mrs. E. A. Redden Answers the Call

It becomes this week the sorrowful commission of the Record to chronicle the death of Mrs. E. A. Redden, widow of J. E. Redden. The summons came to her at 1:30 Sunday morning February 6, 1916, after an illness lasting since the preceding Thursday, this malady being uncontrollable from the first, she having been stricken with paralysis. Some two years ago her husband and beloved companion, J. E. Redden, and she met sorrow bravely, living on at the old farm home near Shive, until the summons came to her, and who knows but that she was sorry to leave her children and friends, the beckoning hand was that of him who had gone on before her and she was glad to follow to the heights of joy where is established the home eternal.

She was a devout Christian, and under the weight of sorrow and loneliness, her launching on the unknown voyage which brought her to that new home, recalls to mind the following beautiful lines from Tennyson, so expressive of her attitude:
Sunset and evening star,
And one clear call for me!
And may there be no moaning of the bar,
When I put out to sea,
But such a tide as moving seems asleep,
Too full for sound and foam,
When that which drew from out the boundless deep
Turns again home.

Twilight and evening bell,
And after that the dark!
And may there be no sadness of farewell,
When I embark;
For tho' from out our bourne of Time and Place
The flood may bear me far,
I hope to see my Pilot face to face
When I have crost the bar.

Eunice Annie Casey was born in the state of Kentucky, July,1850, and was married to J. E. Redden, September 2, 1862, in the state of Illinois. With her husband, she came to Hamilton county, many years ago, and on the farm home near Shive raised a family of ten children, nine sons and daughters surviving her, seven of these being with her to comfort ant receive the blessings of her last moments on earth. The sons are C. M. Redden, Dallas; Albert Redden, Hamilton; J. E., J. C., Robert W. Forest and Mesdames Font Harris, and Cloyd Rucker, all of Shive; Mrs. Nannie Summers, Henrietta. She was a loving and self-sacrificing mother to all of her children. Modest, kind, and sweet natured, she made friends of all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Surrounded by a great assemblage of mourning loved ones and friends, the body of Mrs. Redden was laid in a grave beside that of her husband in the family burial lot in the Shive cemetery on Sunday afternoon about 5 o'clock. Rev. J. F. Hall of the Christian church conducted the religious ceremonies.

The Record feels a personal loss in the death of this sweet gentle woman, who was our friend and we join with other friends of the family in the expression of deep and sincere sympathy of her bereaved children and grandchildren, and would bid them meet life bravely ever following her good example and looking forward with hopefulness and to the joy of that reunion in the home beyond the skies.
