Mabel Peterson
Former LaHarpe resident Mabel Edna Peterson, 93, of Burlington died Wednesday, April 27, 2011, at Life Care Center of Burlington.
She was born April 30, 1917, in Moran, to George Washington and Artie Jane (Tinsley) Alumbaugh. She grew up in the Allen County area and graduated from LaHarpe High School in 1935.
She married Charles O. Stewart in 1937, and they were later divorced. She then married Axel A. Peterson in 1957. He died in 1961.
She was a homemaker and worked for the telephone service in LaHarpe and for the U.S. Postal Service. In 2001, she moved from LaHarpe to Le Roy to be closer to her family. In October of 2009, she became a resident of Life Care Center of Burlington.
She is survived by two sons, Larry Stewart and his wife, Mary, Colony, and C.J. Peterson and his wife, Anita, Le Roy; a daughter, Patricia Roach and her husband, Edd, Vassar, Mich.; 11 grandchildren, Tony Stewart and his wife, Brenda, Bellville, Texas; Dorothy Brown and her husband, Junior, Leonardtown, Md.; James Stewart and his fiancee, Sheila, Iola, Lucinda Mjare and her husband, Jerry, San Antonio, Texas; Roy Trevino and his wife, Lori, Williamsburg, Iowa; Brenda Boeck and her husband, Jay, St. Clair, Mich.; Lori Hollis and her husband, Bob, Columbiaville, Mich., Dirk Roach, Pittsburgh, Pa.; Michelle Nelson and her husband, Josh, Burlington, and Lexi and Blake Peterson, Le Roy; 13 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Opal Doubleday, Taos, N.M.; Wanda Nelson, Lamar, Mo.; and Mary Jane Gearhart and her husband, Lorraine, Wheeler, Texas; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by a grandchild, Jennifer Roach, and by 10 brothers and sisters.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Jones Funeral Home in Burlington. Burial will follow in LaHarpe Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday at Jones Funeral Home in Burlington.
