Sister M. Alphonse Warner, 48, of the Sisters of St. Francis, died at 8:30 a.m., Monday, June 23, 1953, at St. Francis Convent. She was seriously ill for five months.

She was born Elsie Wagner in Champaign, IL, July 5, 1903, the daughter of Joseph and Elsie (Schwartz) Warner.

She was survived by her father, residing in Lorain; a brother, Leo Warner, also of Lorain; and two sisters, Sister M. Genevieve Warner of the Sisters of St. Francis in Tiffin; and Miss Mae Warner of Lorain.

Sister Alphonse was received into the Order of St. Francis on June 20, 1918, and made her First Profession of Vows on February 11, 1920. Her entire religious life was devoted to teaching in the Toledo Diocese. For 32 years she taught at Carey, North Auburn, Millersville, Blakeslee, Edgerton, and St. Sebastian. She taught at St. Sebastian the first semester of the 1952 term but then retired because of illness.

Visitation was held after 4 p.m., Monday, June 23, 1952, at St. Francis Convent Chapel.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 9:30 a.m., Wednesday, June 25, 1952, at St. Francis Convent Chapel, with the Rev. Joseph Inkrott of Toledo officiating. Interment was in St. Francis Convent Cemetery.

Arrangements were under the direction of Pahl Funeral Home.
