Owen was married to Augusta Boynton on or about 1884 at the age of 59. They had one child Alfred August Adkins (1855-1914).
Owen lived essentially his entire life in the Crown Point, New York area and died on August 16, 1897 at the age of 72. He is buried in the Forestdale Cemetery in Crown Point, New York.
