Second wife of Godlove.

A telegraph received by Orrin McNutt, Saturday night brought the sad intelligence of the death of Mrs. Mary A Orth, relict of Hon. G.S. Orth, which occured Saturday afternoon at Capon Springs, VA. She left here several weeks ago for the resort in serch of health. Several weeks ago a telegram was received announcing her serious illness. Saturday morning another telegram came announcing an improvment in her condition. This was followed a few hours later by the sad news of her death. Mrs. Orth had long been a sufferer from hea fever and for several years has visited Capon Springs and found relief. It was with this intention that she visited them this year. Her son Hal was with her when she died and her daugthter, Mrs.l McNutt, was just preparing to start for Virginia when the crushing intelligence came.

Mary A. Ayers was born in this city July 27, 1830. Her birthplace was her late residence. She was married to the late Godlove S. Orth on August 28, 1850, and lived happily with him until his death, December 16, 1882. Two children Hal and Mary, now Mrs. Orrin McNutt, survive her., While Mr. Orth was minister to Austria in 1864-5, Mrs Orth was also with him at Washington a portion of the sixteen years he survived in Congress.

All of her live, except the few short periods in which she graced the society of other cities, was spent in Lafayette, her birthplace. Her name is familiar to all, and it would be difficult to eulogize a live that has been lived so nobly and so intimately with every man and women in this city. She possessed a rare mind, and was fitted for the position in life she was called to fill. Her virtues and graces were many and so apparent that they have been builded a monument in the memory of her friends that is far grander than any hewn out of the senseless granite. In her death the community loses a noble member and a universal tear will gather to drop into that new made grave.

Mrs Orth was at the one time a member of the Methodist church and an effort will be made to secure Rev. H.A. Gobin to conduct the funeral service, he haveing spoken the last words of consolation over the remains of her husband. The remains will be brought to the city and will arrive some time tomorrow.
