United States Representative from New York, 1809-1813; Major General of New York Volunteers in the War of 1812, 1812-1815; presented a gold medal by a joint resolution of Congress for "gallantry and good conduct in the several conflicts of Chippewa, Niagara, and Erie"; again a United States Representative from New York, 1815-1816; Secretary of War under President John Quincy Adams, 1828-1829.
