The following was written by Legrand Hargis Carney for his son, Ephraim Love Carney on July 28, 1880 in the County of Rutherford and State of Tennessee about three miles from Murfreesboro....
"I Legrand Hargis Carney am the son of William and Mary Hargis Carney who only had two children a daughter Pratalia about four years older than myself lived to be about two years old when her clothing caught fire and she was so badly burned that she died from the effects. About two years after her death I was born in Person County, North Carolina near a small village called Leesburg, and near a small creek called Cob Creek on January 1st 1808."
