James Calvin Carnahan, from Murfreesboro, Tenn., he mustered in as a private in Co. G, 8th Tenn. (Smith's) Cav. Regt., CSA. Imprisoned at the Rutherford County courthouse, he was freed when Gen. Nathan B. Forrest raided on July 13, 1862. His pension application states that he fought at Perryville, Chickamauga, Murfreesboro, Missionary Ridge and Resaca was imprisoned 6 weeks in Louisville, Ky., took the oath of allegiance to the United States and was paroled in North Carolina May 3, 1865
