WEST FRANKFORT -- Gerald L. "Gerry" Hart, 76, passed away at 8:02 p.m. Wednesday, April 27, 2011, in Memorial Hospital in Carbondale.

He was born Jan. 31, 1935, in West Frankfort, to Francis Hart and Mary (Pierbeck) Hart.

He was married to Linda (Bruno) Hart, and she survives, as do two children, Michael Hart and wife, Kathy, of Zionsville, Ind., and Beth Murray and husband, Michael of Palatine.

She is also survived by five grandchildren, Rachel and Dana Murray, Ellen, Daria and Alex Hart.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Pat Wall.

He was a member of St. John Catholic Church in West Frankfort and a graduate of Frankfort Community High School in West Frankfort and Southern Illinois University in Carbondale. He also belonged to Knights of Columbus and the Moose Lodge 795 both of West Frankfort.

Mr. Hart spent his working life as a football coach. He coached at a number of Illinois High Schools before moving on to coach at Southern Illinois University, Illinois State University, Western Illinois University, Calgary Stampeders and the Saskatchewan Roughriders, both of the Canadian Football League.

Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 30, 2011, in St. John's Catholic Church in West Frankfort, with Father Brian Barker officiating. Burial will be in the St. John Catholic Cemetery in West Frankfort. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Parker Reedy Funeral Home in West Frankfort.

Memorial Contributions can be made to the St. John Catholic School and will be accepted at the funeral home.
