Enlisted 25 Sep 1961 with brothers John and Benjamin and future brother-in-law Eli Shorter Griffin in and served in GA 26th Infantry, Company I.

Also served in Company F, 2nd GA Volunteers (Twiggs County, GA) during the Civil War and was discharged in APR 1865 in Macon, Bibb County, GA.
