WIDELY KNOWN PARIS MAN DIES
Paris, Mo., April 11. — John Alexander, 75, member of a widely known Paris family, died Tuesday night at 9:50 in his home here, after being ill several months and critically ill three weeks.
Mr. Alexander was born at Paris, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Cicero Alexander. His father was a pioneer groceryman and in the express business. The father was associated with his two sons, John and Eben, in the business for many years. In 1898 John Alexander went to Moberly to work for the American Express company. In 1911 he returned to Paris and after the death of his father the two brothers went into partnership in the grocery and express business and continued until 1932, when Eben Alexander's health failed. From 1932 to 1937 John Alexander continued alone in the business. For seven years he served in the office of the state auditor, Forrest Smith, at Jefferson City.
Mr. Alexander was preceded in death by his wife, the former Minnie Grimes, who died 10 months ago. He leaves a daughter, Mrs. Ralph Ellington, of Paris; two sisters, Miss Nellie Alexander of Paris and Mrs. I. A. Shedd of Los Angeles; two brothers, Col. Roger G. Alexander, an instructor in the military academy at West Point, and Dr. Carter Alexander, a professor at Columbia university in New York, and a grandson, Kenneth Ellington.
