Sharon Hilton Garner Rowberry, 76, of Rexburg, passed away Wednesday April 27, 2011, at The Homestead Assisted Living Center in Rexburg, Idaho of causes incident to age and a previous stroke. Sharon was born December 26, 1934 in Salem, Idaho, to Glen Hugh Hilton and Belva Hunziker Hilton. As a child, she attended grade schools in many places as her parents followed what scarce work there was to be had due to the economy of the period. The bulk of her education was in Sugar City while living on the Hilton homestead in Salem During her childhood, she proudly learned the value of hard work, the value of family, the value of having fun and the value of sharing, all of which she always passed on to everyone she ever met throughout her life. She married Asa Ray Garner on February 17, 1951. Together they raised four children, Asel, LaWanna, Gwen and Jesse. Through bad times, through good times, Sharon was always the rock. She instilled her life values on her children with all her actions and words. There was never a chore asked to be done that she would not do herself If there was a big job to be done making sure her family was cared for, she would always be there alongside them showing them how to do it and passing on her wants to make sure her family knew how to take care of themselves as well as take care of each others. Sharon not only took care of her four children but also babysat, cleaned doctor's offices and worked at the hospital in the kitchen. Asa and Sharon bought their first house in Rexburg. It was on 2/3 of an acre on 4th West and because of their hard work, it quickly became a marvelous place to raise a family. She had a huge raspberry patch and as a family, about 1000 cases of raspberries were picked and sold every summer. She always loved the outdoors and cherished that certain relationship with a much higher power that created it all. In 1976, the Teton Dam Flood destroyed the house. Together she and Asa gathered up what was left and rebuilt on the same property. Asa passed away in October of 1977 but not until making sure that his true love was comfortable. She continued her education and received her GED certificate and attended night schooling for an education in bookkeeping. On August 15, 1980 she Married Glen Ray Rowberry. She proudly welcomed his family as her own and gave them all as much love and kindness as if they were of her flesh and blood. This marriage opened up a new chapter in her life. She learned how to fly and earned her pilot's license. After Glen's retirement, they sold the home they had purchased in Rexburg and found the excitement of being full-time RV'ers. They traveled extensively in their motor home through the US, Canada, Alaska and Mexico. They also flew to Japan, Costa Rica, Hawaii and Guam Summers were spent in the cooler climates and winters in the south. They were both avid rock hounds and got introduced to gold prospecting as well. Together they spent countless hours searching for rocks, minerals and gold. Glen passed away in March 2005. In 2006, Sharon had a massive stroke causing paralysis. Through her heroic will to live life to the fullest, she regained enough of her ability to walk which allowed her to live life to the fullest extent possible until the end. Her last big dream was fulfilled as she did complete the Teton Dam Marathon in 2010 with the help of family and friends. Sharon was a baptized into the LDS church but also knew religion has no bounds and had been attending Grace Baptist Church which she loved. She is survived by her children of Rexburg, Asel Garner, LaWanna Garner ( Ray Archibald ), Gwen (Dusty) Cureton and Jesse Garner of Idaho Falls as well as her brother, Blair Hilton of Rexburg. She is also survived by her step-children, Deanne (Steve Williams), Joann Bailey, Diann (Mike) Bush, Annette (Trey) Harvard, Debbie ( Rick) Sasala and Brent Rowberry. She is also survived by 18 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by both husbands and her parents.. The family would like to express their sincere thanks and admiration to the staff at The Homestead for their love, care, compassion and concern and would also like to thank Creekside Hospice for their care and support over the last few days. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 30, at Flamm Funeral Home, 61 North 1st East in Rexburg, Idaho The family will visit with friends from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday. April 29 at Flamm Funeral Home and again Saturday from 1:00 to 1:45 prior to services. Graveside services will be held at a later date at the Wilford Cemetery.
