In about 1926 he married Bertha F. Wells and they had a son, Richard A. Gamble. They divorced in the 1930's.
For most of the 1920's and 1930's Bill worked as a farmer and rancher.
Bill met Pauline 'Polly' Leatherman in Springfield, MO in the mid 1930's when he was moving cattle from Kansas to Missouri to escape the drought. Bill & Polly married on 5/21/1937. They adopted Billie Joan Gamble, who was born on 9/14/1951 in Lamar, Barton county, MO.
During the early 1940's, Bill started to work as a heavy equipment operator and worked on road construction. During this time Bill & Polly moved to several mid-western states following the construction work. Later on they moved to New Mexico, working on a Navajo reservation near Gallup and eventually living in Albuquerque. While living in New Mexico, Bill enjoyed hunting deer and elk.
Their daughter, Joan, married Clay Irish in 1974 and they had a son Darrell. Joan passed away on 9/10/2002.
Bill passed away in Albuquerque, NM on 10/25/1978 and was buried in Sandia Memory Gardens.
