The Gettysburg Compilier February 20,1907

James A Rebert came to his death in Harrisburg on last Wednesday from the effects of a second stroke of paralysis, having been in failing health since last fall when the first stroke was sustained. He was in his 62nd year. He was a son of Ex Sheriff Adam Rebert of this county and lived in Cashtown many years, keeping a general store there and running a huckster route. He sold the store to David Mickley and about ten years ago moved to Harrisburg where he was engaged in the insurance business. The funeral was held on last Saturday, services from Reformed church at Cashtown by Rev. E.W. Stonebraker, with interment at Flohr's graveyard. He married Miss Susan Wierman in 1865, s daughter of the late William H Weirman of Cumberland township, who survives with three sons and one daughter, Wm. G., of Cashtown, H.P., and Chas. A., of Philadelphia, and Mrs. John Geyer of Cumberland township. A brother and sister survive, David of Altoona and Mrs. DeWitt Gerhart, of Martinsburg, W. Va.

The son of Adam & Rebecca Dorothy (Mickley) Rebert, in 1850 he lived with his grandparents Peter & Nancy Mickley in Franklin Township, Adams County, Pennsylvania. In 1860, he was a farmer still living in Franklin Township and stood 5' 6" tall with dark hair and gray eyes.

A Civil War veteran, he enlisted in Cashtown, Adams County, June 26, 1863, and mustered into federal service at Harrisburg July 15 as a private with Co. B, 21st Pennsylvania Cavalry (182nd Pa). Promoted to corporal March 15, 1864, and to sergeant April 19, 1864, he honorably discharged with his company July 8, 1865.

He married Susan R. Wierman May 28, 1874, and fathered William Grant (b. 09/12/66), Charles A. (b. 1868), Hammond Peter (b. 01/31/70), James Abner (b. 03/15/70 [?], d. 12/07/71), Ida Dorothy (b. 03/08/77 - married John Elmer Geyer), and Hettie (b. ?). Cause of death is listed as a "cerebral embolism" with "exhaustion" a contributing factor.
