Son of Charles W. and Matilda (Tillie) Bucher; siblings: Claude I., Mary A., Margaret M., William D., and Cecelia E. Bucher.

A veteran of World War I, Charles was killed in the beginning days of the Meuse-Argonne Offensive, a military campaign designed to break through the Hindenburg Line. Although the losses were severe, the battle eventually resulted in an Allied victory.
