Hubert "Hugh" Boyer Avery, age 88, of Savanna died Sunday, Jan. 19, 2003, at Mercy Medical Center South Campus, Clinton, Iowa, after battling Parkinson's disease for many years.
Hugh was born March 3, 1914, in Cherokee, Iowa, the son of Arthur and Elsie (Boyer) Avery. He married Lucille Lotz on April 26, 1963 in Lanark.
Hugh is survived by his wife, Lucille of Savanna; two daughters, Annette Meadows of Orlando, Fla., and Susan Caterino of Mission Viego, Calif.; a son, George Avery of Rockford; a sister, June Henning of Eustis, Fla. 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Also a stepdaughter, Delores Lamoreux of Lawrenceville, Ga.; a stepson-in-law, Richard McLaughlin of Minooka; four step-grandchildren; and three step-great-grandchildren.
Hugh was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, a daughter, a stepdaughter and a stepgranddaughter.
Hugh enjoyed wood working, cards, fishing, bowling, camping and Moose activities. He was a retired Railway Express Agent, a position he held for 28 years.
He was a member of the Lanark Trinity Lutheran Church, the Carroll County Radio Patrol, Golden Age Club and the Savanna Loyal Order of the Moose where he attained the Pilgrim Degree.
His body has been donated for scientific research. A graveside inurnment service will be held at a later date.
A memorial fund has been established in his memory to the Lanark Trinity Lutheran Church in Lanark.

SAVANNA -- Hubert "Hugh" Boyer Avery, 88, of Savanna died Sunday, Jan. 19, 2003, at Mercy Medical Center South Campus in Clinton, Iowa, after battling Parkinson's disease for many years.
Hugh's body was donated to science.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lanark with Pastor Kim Lee-Brown officiating. Inurnment will be at Lanark Cemetery with a graveside service given by Savanna Loyal Order of the Moose.
A memorial fund has been established in his memory for Trinity Lutheran Church.
