A most sad accident, resulting in the death of Charlie Land, occurred during the trip of the Chilcotin to Fort George this week. The body of the young man was brought to Quesnel on the Chilco last evening accompanied by the bereaved father who, upon learning of the accident, went up on the "B.X." Wednesday . The funeral was held this morning, Rev. Mr. Stott officiating.
The unfortunate accident to this popular young man took place at Fort George Canyon. Land with his partner were assisting the Chilcotin to line ashore. Both bow and stern lines had been secured and Land was at the bow line. The stern line was thrown off by his partner, permitting the boat to swing around. He called to Land to look out and run as the tree to which the other line was attached was falling. He ran but in confusion ran under the falling tree that crushed out his life.
Charlie Land was well known and liked in Quesnel, where he had been with his father previous to taking a contract chopping wood on the river.
