Alonzo "Red" E. Harney, 82, Greencastle, passed away Monday at his residence. Born May 20, 1905 in Mansfield, he was the son of Scott and Maude (Staggs) Harney. He married the former Lelah B. Burkett, and they celebrated their 53rd anniversary this year. His wife survives. Mr. Harney retired in 1970 after working as a mechanic for the City of Greencastle for 10 years. He also drove for the Gene Sears Cab Line for 10 years. One of the oldest members of the Greencastle Moose Lodge, he was in the club for 40 years. In addition to the wife, survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Barbara A. Davis, Cloverdale, Mrs. Sharon R. Gray, Kansas City, Mo., and Mrs. Diane Zimmerman, Greencastle; two sons, Dennis A. Harney, Plainfield, and Harold "Bud" Harney, Greencastle; a brother, Jay Harney, Rockville, and three sisters, Mrs. Leslie Pollard and Mrs. Georgie Hollingsworth, both of Rockville, and Mrs. Dorothy Brattain, Greencastle. Also surviving are 12 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and five step great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and a brother. Services will be conducted at 10:30 am Thursday from Hopkins-Rector Funeral Home, Greencastle, where the Moose Lodge will hold a memorial service at 7 pm Wednesday. Rev. Paul Robinson will officiate with interment in the Martin Cemetery.
