Those who preceded him in death are all his brothers and sisters in the Netherlands; his daughter Dora, who had been a missionary in Japan for 13 years, dying in 1936; and his wife who passed away in 1941.
Surviving are the five children: Grace, Mrs. John Vander Wey of Crookston, Nebr.; Jessie, Mrs. Edwin Isaak of Brush Prairie, Wash.; Pierre of Springfield, South Dakota; Thyrza, Mrs. H.A. Harmelink of Carmel, Iowa; and Alys, Mrs. Wm. Beltman of Orange City; and 17 grandchildren, and further relatives and a host of friends.
The deceased had until recently been in fairly good health until two weeks ago when he was hospitalized for dropsy and hardening of the arteries. He passed away on Tuesday afternoon at 4 o'clock at the age of 83 years and 11 months.
He served faithfully as elder for 27 years in the Reformed Church of Springfield, South Dakota from the time of its infancy until it was grown into a comparatively strong church. Since his residence in Orange City, he was a member of the First Reformed Church.
