Mr. Ulbe Eringa was born on the 21st of April 1866, in Hijdaard, Province of Friesland, the Netherlands. He was youngest of twelve children born to Pierre Eringa and Grietje Noordmans. In 1892 he, as the only member of the family, migrated to this country, settling near Hull, Iowa. On November 22, 1893, he was united in marriage to Marie Riepstra. In 1894 they moved to Springfield, South Dakota where they farmed for 32 years, after which in 1926 they retired to Orange City. In 1942 the deceased took up his residence in the Pioneer Home, where he lived up to the time of his illness and death.

Those who preceded him in death are all his brothers and sisters in the Netherlands; his daughter Dora, who had been a missionary in Japan for 13 years, dying in 1936; and his wife who passed away in 1941.

Surviving are the five children: Grace, Mrs. John Vander Wey of Crookston, Nebr.; Jessie, Mrs. Edwin Isaak of Brush Prairie, Wash.; Pierre of Springfield, South Dakota; Thyrza, Mrs. H.A. Harmelink of Carmel, Iowa; and Alys, Mrs. Wm. Beltman of Orange City; and 17 grandchildren, and further relatives and a host of friends.

The deceased had until recently been in fairly good health until two weeks ago when he was hospitalized for dropsy and hardening of the arteries. He passed away on Tuesday afternoon at 4 o'clock at the age of 83 years and 11 months.

He served faithfully as elder for 27 years in the Reformed Church of Springfield, South Dakota from the time of its infancy until it was grown into a comparatively strong church. Since his residence in Orange City, he was a member of the First Reformed Church.
