DOROTHA McCARVER Age 90, passed away in Riverside on April 17, 2011 from complications of pneumonia. Dorotha was born April 1, 1921 in Nardin, Oklahoma. She grew up on a farm near Lamont, Oklahoma and attended a country school through 8th grade. Dorotha graduated from Lamont High School in 1937 and in 1941 from Central State Teacher's College, earning her teaching credential. During WWII, she worked in Washington DC as a "government girl." On July 4, 1942 Dorotha married her college sweetheart, Morris McCarver. After moving to Riverside in 1946, Dorotha worked for Best, Best and Gabbert, and then at the Riverside County Courthouse when John Gabbert was appointed judge. In 1970, when Judge Gabbert was elevated to the Court of Appeal in San Bernardino, Dorotha went to work there until retiring in 1983. Dorotha enjoyed spending time with her family and her many friends. She loved to play bridge, read, go shopping and out to lunch and all the activities she was involved with at her church. Dorotha was a Christian and devoted member of First Christian Church for 50 years. Dorotha is survived by her daughter, Nancy Bracey (John); grandsons, Jeremy (Ely) and Mark (Kim), and great-grandsons, Jake and Gavin. Morris, her husband of 68 years, predeceased her in Feb. 2011. A celebration of Dorotha's life will be held at 10:00am on Tuesday, April 26, at First Christian Church, 4055 Jurupa Ave., Riverside, 92506. Graveside service will be at 1:00 p.m. at Riverside National Cemetery, Staging Area No. 5 In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Dorotha's name to First Christian Church at the above address.
