The Rosary service for Martha E. O'Connor will be held at 10:30 a.m. and the Memorial Service at 11:00 a.m. both on Thursday, April 28, 2011 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Lemmon. Deacon Bill Dustman will officiate with burial the Greenhill Cemetery in Lemmon.
Martha Elaine Lesselyoung was born on September 17, 1928, at Ralph, SD to Stephen and Irene (Mohr) Lesselyoung. She attended elementary school at Grandview and Jefferson School's and went to high school in Hettinger, ND. Following her schooling, she began working as a waitress and raised her two sons, Denny and Pat. While waitressing in Montana, she met Jim O'Connor and they were married. They lived in Montana, Wyoming, and Washington, before settling in South Dakota.
In 1957 Jim passed away and Martha and her sons settled in Lemmon, SD. She continued to work as a waitress and as a cook.
Martha enjoyed sewing and making quilts for her family. She was also quite a musician, playing both the guitar and piano. She enjoyed playing music with her brothers and sisters at the Five Counties Nursing Home in Lemmon. She especially enjoyed crossword puzzles.
Martha was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and St. Mary's Altar Society.
Martha passed away at on Thursday, April 21, 2011 at the Western Horizon's Care Center in Hettinger, ND at the age of 82.
She is survived by her two sons and one daughter-in-law, Patrick O'Connor, Lemmon, SD and Denny and Janie O'Connor, Lemmon, SD; one brother, Stan Lesselyoung, Lemmon, SD; three sisters and one brother-in-law, Peg Arneson, Detroit Lakes, MN, Mary Kari, Lemmon, SD and Connie and John Hay, Lemmon, SD; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jim O'Connor; seven brothers, Gordon, John, Leonard, Ed, Frank, Robert and Steve Lesselyoung; and two sisters, Genevieve Kuhr and Jean Smith.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, April 27, 2011 from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Evanson-Jensen Funeral Home in Lemmon and one hour prior to the memorial service at the church on Thursday.
