Palmer Dwight Davis Jr.

Graveside services with military honors for Palmer Dwight Davis Jr., 85, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Hext Cemetery with David Hagood officiating. Mr. Davis died April 20, 2011, in Temple. He was born April 18, 1926, to Palmer D. Sr. and Hazel (Glover) Davis in Lyons, Ga.

He married Mary Gene Braley from Hext on Dec. 21, 1947, at Camp Hood. They were married for 62 years until her death in 2009. They were HAM operators with her name of "KA5YQV" and his "AC5IO." Mr. Davis retired from the Army and worked for Civil Service until his retirement.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Palmer D. Sr. and Hazel Davis; wife, Mary Gene Davis; sisters, Sarah and Janice; and a brother, Paul.

Survivors include his brother, Charles; sisters, Dorothy, Virginia and Linda, all of South Carolina; cousins by marriage, Wilda Meixner of Horseshoe Bay and Andra Furr Stevens of Zapata.

Visitation is from 11 a.m. to noon Saturday prior to the service at Heritage Funeral Home in Brady, which is in charge of arrangements.
