William R. Akins, 79, of Bluffton, SC, passed away on Saturday, March 26, 2011 in the Medical University of Charleston, SC.

He was born in Savannah, GA on June 12, 1931 and had lived in Bluffton for forty-two years. He was the son of the late Daniel N. and Mary Jernigan Akins. He owned La-Rama Shipping Company in Savannah and he was an Episcopalian.

He is survived by his two sons, M. Liam (Teresa) Akins of Charlotte, NC and Robert Randolph (Stuart) Akins of Fort Wayne, IN; one daughter, Deborah Akins of Johns Island, SC; grandchildren, Lynn DiFiore, Sarah Winters, Catherine Akins, Olivia Akins, Michael Akins, and Annika Akins; three great-grandchildren, Lyndsey Smith, Carey Winters, and Maggie Winters. He was predeceased by his wife, Margaret Ann (Peggy) Moore Akins.

Graveside Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 30, 2011 in the Bluffton Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 til 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 29, 2011 at Sauls Funeral Home, 90 Simmonsville Road, Bluffton.
