age 93 of Montrose, Iowa died Saturday April 23, 2011 at 10:15 a.m. at the Montrose Health Center.
She was born April 28, 1917 in Moville, Iowa the daughter of Peter and Elsie Martin Sierks. She married Chester L. Carlson on February 4, 1936 in Webster City, Iowa. He preceded her in death April 26, 1997.
Mayola is survived by two sons, Steven C. (and Barbara) Carlson and Ronald D. (and Nancee) Carlson, all of Peoria, Ill.; two daughters, Janice Mason of Ft. Madison, Iowa and Sandra Williamson of Galesburg, Ill.; one brother, Raymond "Jack" (and Thelma) Sierks of Artesia, N. M.; one sister, Jean (and Robert) Gatzke of Las Vegas, Nev.; five grandchildren, and ten great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Cynthia, one sister, and one grandson.
She graduated from Stratford High School, Stratford, Iowa in 1935 and was a member of the girl's state basketball team. She moved to Galesburg in 1953, later to Peoria, Ill., then Montrose, Iowa in 2008. Mayola was a homemaker, a member of the Emmanuel United Methodist Church in Galesburg, was a member of the United Methodist Women and involved in numerous church activities including singing in the choir. She volunteered at the Red Cross for over 20 years.
Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday April 27, 2011 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel with Rev. Peter Wehrly officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Emmanuel United Methodist Church or to Montrose Health Center, Montrose, Iowa.
