He was born in Wolfe County, Ky., the son of the late Sam and Laura Clark Whisman.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, where he received a Purple Heart. He was a sign painter and carpenter and a member of Mount Olive United Methodist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Elah Starcher Whisman; two daughters, Joan Satterfield of Grantsville and Twila Roach of Parkersburg; and four grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Henry, Jack and Alford Whisman; one half-brother, Bill Whisman; and a twin sister, Mary.
Services were held at Mount Olive United Methodist Church with Rev. Rick Swearengin and Rev. Carroll McCauley officiating. Burial was in Mt. Zion Cemetery.
