Gorman Lester Allen, Sr., 88, widower of Bonnie Fay (Fitzgerald) Allen of 699 Old White Hill Road, Stuarts Draft passed away Friday morning, April 22, 2011 at his residence.
Mr. Allen was born in Montebello, VA on October 5, 1922 a son of the late Luther Gorman "Pug" Allen and Mattie (Hatter) Allen.
Mr. Allen retired in 1978 as a dock worker from Smith's Transfer after twenty-four years of service and he helped to build the Blue Ridge Parkway. He loved being outdoors, mowing the lawn or just sitting on the front porch and was very devoted to his family.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a brother, Buddy Allen and three sisters, Irene Tatro, Hazel Mann and Gertrude Allen.
Surviving is a son and daughter-in-law, G.L. Allen, Jr. and his wife Rebecca of Stuarts Draft; two brothers and a sister-in-law, George Allen and his wife Eloise of Stuarts Draft and Jim Allen of Waynesboro; a sister, Agnes Coffey of Staunton; three grandchildren, Travis M. Allen and his wife Christine, Amanda Kelsey Allen and Cody L. Duff; an expected great-granddaughter, Catherine Allen; and a number of nieces and nephews also survive.
A Graveside service will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 25, 2011 in Calvary United Methodist Church Cemetery by Pastor Chuck Balsamo.
The family will receive friends at the residence at anytime.
