Their home was on the Victorian Home Tour: The Huntley House - 1302 Grand avenue - Italianate built in 1877 by Ezra Huntley who was in the California gold rush. The low, hipped roof, the overhanging eaves with decorative brackets, and the round-headed windows with hood moldings, are all typical of this style. Having been a sailor in his youth, Mr. Huntley had the molding around the front door braided like a rope. ~ (Next owned by Dr Charles B Guinn, then his son Richard C Guinn).

Mrs. Mary Huntley Died This Morning - Came to Carthage in 1871

After months of suffering from the effects of apoplexy, Mrs. Mary Huntley, aged 74 years, died at 2 o'clock this morning at her home on Thirteenth Street near Grand Avenue.

Mrs. Huntley is the widow of the late Ezra Huntley, who died about 12 years ago. She came to Carthage with her husband from Kankakee county, Illinois in the year 1871 and has resided here continously ever since. Four children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Huntley, three of whom are alive;

Last April, Mrs. Huntley was stricken with apoplexy and has been in very feeble health ever since. Several days ago she was again stricken and sank from then on to her death.

The deceased was a true Christian woman.
