Obituary:
Estrella Bernice Mehaffey Cooper, 82, of Ranger, Texas, died Sunday, March 20, 2011, in Hendrick Hospice in Abilene. Mrs. Cooper was born March 11, 1929, in Breckenridge to Howard H. and Eddith Mehaffey. She played clarinet and graduated from Breckenridge High in 1947. A devout Christian, she was a member of Bethany Baptist Church in Breckenridge for more than 30 years, singing in the choir, and later joined the First Baptist Church in Ranger. In recent years, she attended the Leon River Cowboy Church near Eastland. Her faith was resolute.

She liked songbirds, wildflowers, the color blue and Betty Boop. Her immaculate garden included daffodils, lilies and moonflowers. She made the very best sugar cream pie in all the world.

Mrs. Cooper adored her family, and is preceded in death by her parents, sister Patty Lorese Russell and brother Thomas Claude Mehaffey. She will be missed and survived by her husband W.K. Cooper; son Stevan, daughter-in-law Diane, and grandchildren Evan and Alia, all of Colorado Springs, Colo.; daughter Connie Post of Dayton, Ohio; her siblings Aaron of Breckenridge; Howard of Weatherford; Robert Joe of Woodson; Jenice Bacon of Aledo; Terry of Albuquerque, N.M.; Maurice of Denton; and Sue Mehaffey Thompson of Sherman.

She will be honored at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 23, at Melton-Kitchens Funeral Home in Breckenridge. In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations be made to the American Cancer Society or Hendrick Hospice.
