He married Emma Walker Mead on September 19, 1865 in Towanda, McLean County, Illinois. She was born on September 19, 1842 in Springdale, Hamilton Co., Ohio, the daughter of Benjamin Church Mead (1804-1850) and Mary Livingston Brown Mead (1810-1897).
Her mother married William Durland Hilts (1806-1874) on May 11, 1853 in Cincinnati. He was the appraiser of her husband's estate. They moved to Illinois in 1857.

She married Oscar Henry Sawers February 3, 1897 in Cincinnati, Hamilton County, Ohio; he was born February 10, 1871 in Lafayette, Tippecannoe County, Indiana; he died December 18, 1941 in Manatee City, Manatee County, Florida.

He was later connected with the federal internal revenue department of Cincinnati. In 1908, John Beeler gave up active business when he and Emma moved to Denver to be near their sons, John Allen and Edwin.
Their son, John Allen Beeler, was an assistant engineer in the construction of the cable railways of Cincinnati and Denver from 1885 to 1890, and the chief engineer of the Denver Tramway Company from 1890 to 1902. He left Ohio for Denver around 1890, where he worked in the construction of the streetcar lines and became subsequently became general manager of the Denver Tram Company and the Director of Operations, Denver and Intermountain Railroad Company.
John Allen "J.A." became vice president and general manager of the Denver Tramway Company in 1902 and remained with it until 1915, when he established his own consultant practice. He was a consultant engineer on transit and other public utility projects in Atlanta, New York, Boston, Washington, Kansas City, New Orleans, Dallas, Seattle, and other cities. He also served, from 1902 to 1915, as vice-president and general superintendent of the D. and N.W. Railway Company, and from 1903 to 1915 as director in charge of operations of the Denver and Intermountain Railroad Company. In New York he later was a consulting traffic expert for the New York Transit Commission.
John died February 12, 1920 in Denver, Colorado. Emma died on August 11, 1928 in New York City.
